    Hello

Wow! What a year 2025 was.

This past year has been one of writing, community connection, and creative momentum. From author gatherings, planning workshops, attending international writing conferences, to quiet gravel travel hours and hip replacement surgery, 2025 reminded me how important it is to keep showing up for myself and for each other.

At the end of 2025, my five-years of working with the Women Writing the West organization (mailing address — Denver, CO) came to an close. It was an honour to work alongside this talented group. However, I would be fibbing if I didn’t say I am ready to move into my new/old full-time occupation — focusing on the things that have waited patiently for me to return.

The Year of the Snake continues through February 16, 2026. A time often associated with reflection, patience, and shedding of the old in preparation for the new. On February 17, 2026, we welcome the Year of the Fire Horse, and with it energy, movement, and forward momentum. I cannot think of a better symbol to travel with me during this year of 2026 as I continue to work on the various creative components found in the stalls of my so-called barn.

New Characters Arrive: The original Barn Cat Buttons crew introduced additional barnyard animals in my latest book, ’Twas the Week Before Christmas. Each with their own distinct personality, these characters have been a joy to create, and I’m excited to share them with you in future children’s books as the collection grows.

If you have had the opportunity to read ’Twas the Week Before Christmas, we love to hear from you.

Brandi Westeron Mystery Fans: I am writing the third Brandi Westeron Mystery. Its current working title is The Box; however, it is quite common for book titles to change when the manuscript is finally finished … For now, it is The Box …

For those of you who have followed Brandi in The Quiet Spirits (original or second edition) and/or Bloodlines, the big news for this series is that the third book weaves us down a plot path to the finale of the Brandi Westeron Mysteries.

How will this happen? Is there a possibility characters will show up as the protagonist in their own stories? Will characters find themselves in other WIP books? Contact me to let me know what do you think is going happen?

A New Monthly Writing Prompt: Starting in a few weeks, I am introducing The Writing Spark. A monthly writing prompt released on the third Tuesday of each month. Each prompt is designed to spark writing curiosity and conversation, whether you’re drafting flash fiction, journaling, working through a longer piece, want to have some writing fun, or just want to discuss its prospects with other like-minded people in your circle. Watch your mailbox for the first instalment coming on January 20, 2026.

Thank you for your support. Here’s to another year of stories — written, shared, and still waiting to be told.

    Warmly,

    Hello,

Since I visited with you last, it has been a whirlwind of fun and decision making.

The new website re-opened the door for me to share different forms of writing – articles, challenges, and of course my books.
And, I might add, it has been great reading your challenge replies. Your interpretative imaginations are a treat, and more often as not, do make me laugh.

Enjoyment in my life comes in many forms – Gravel Travel, Native Plant Garden, Reading, Testing New Recipes, and of course Writing.

My Facebook and Instagram platforms is where I post pictures; however, I know that some of you choose not to be involved in those forms of social media. If you are so inclined, some of my enjoyment moments can be viewed here.

In all honesty, your eyes may never see the majority of my written words. This is often the life of one who writes; we stash prose and poetry away until they demand to be let loose to a worldwide home versus life on a shelf for my own pleasure. The following, titled Unknown, is a little bit of something that needed to get out there.
Do you think it should morph into a story?
    What would you suggest?

    Unknown

Remote, quiet and off the grid. Only a deer trail to the door. A fixer-upper the realtor had said.

From the outside, the hand-hewn, dovetailed corners of the old log cabin spoke volumes. Its character, surrounded by a once beautiful, but now overgrown, shin-tangled yard.

Stepping onto the porch, the small bench tucked against the wall was the only welcoming party. The agent had said the door needed a little persuasion sometimes, not today. The handle turned without incident and the door swung open, letting the light from outside stream across the single room of the tiny home.

The space inside sent her imagination reeling, taking her breath away. Everything was in its place, as if someone had gone out for a walk and forgotten to come back. The wood stove with split logs stacked beside it, a bed frame made from poles, a table, a bench, dishes on the shelf.

Drawn inside, she closed the door and leaned against its solid frame. Thoughts of the unknown sent a shiver down her spine. There was no turning back; the journey of discovering the mysterious unknown of her new home had begun.

Now that the housekeeping part of this newsletter is out of the way, I think this is the best place to segue into the what’s happening as I move into the remaining months of 2025, and on into 2026.

New Children’s Book – Coming This October
I’m thrilled to announce that my newest children’s book will be released this October! The barnyard is bustling with friends old and new.
