Thumb Found Waterfall

Reading the How Places Got Their Names article in the monthly Archeology Digest almost made him spit the garlic vitamins out.

“Dumbfounded Waterfall! That is not the correct name!” He bellowed.

He had his grandfather‘s journals, the dig sight’s registered name was Found Thumb Waterfall.

  1. Had me smiling at this one! Lots of places get names that are renamed so they can be named again so it looks better on a map or something I suppose. I had the opportunity to catch one in the making – when the new map came out for this region, someone decided to rename a valley Rodeo Gap when it should have retained the name of the original homesteader, Ropeo Gap. Glad I was there to get their attention.

Convenience for some overrides the importance of keeping our history from disappearing. I’m glad to hear you had a hand in making sure the homestead name stayed.
