Bookshelf Challenge

Use the Bookshelf Challenge as a fun introduction to prompt writing, or a deviation away from your personal writing schedule. The prompt will be centred around the books you might have in your personal library, local libraries, from your family and friends, or anywhere you might come across them.

  • Use three random books.
  • Open each book to the page that is the last two digits of your birth year.
  • Go to the first sentence of the third paragraph.
  • Write down the third or the fifth word.

  • Open each book to the page that is your age.
  • Go to the first sentence of the third paragraph.
  • Write down the third or the fifth word.

  • If the third word is: the, an, in, on, a – these should not be used. Move onto the fifth word.

Use the six recorded words to write a story, a poem, a something, that is at least 99 words long.

.

This is meant to be fun. You can share your work here, or keep it to yourself; whichever you choose is fine by us.
